The best
summary of the situation in Haiti today, with messages
from Congresswoman Barbara Lee, political prisoner Father
Jean-Juste, video footage and experts from around the
country. Two years after the overthrow of Haiti's
democratically elected President, Jean-Bertrand Aristide,
in February 2004, Haitians were finally able to cast their
votes for a new government. The world is waiting to see if
redress for past and present human rights violations is
possible in a country still suffering from poverty,
violence, and corruption. Experts flew across the country
to U.C. Hastings to plan next steps. Speakers included
Brian Concannon, Jr. Esq. of Institute for Justice &
Democracy in Haiti; Pierre-Antoine Lovinsky of Fondasyon
Tran Septanm; Moira Feeney, esq. of the Center for Justice
& Accountability; Sister Stella Goodpasture; Seth
Donelly of the US Legal and Human Rights Delegations to
Haiti; Pierre Labossiere of the Haiti Action Committee and
Dr. Sacha Kramer of the Haiti Action Committee. |
